- Located at the end of Great Barrington’s Railroad Street extension, deep in the heart of the cultural center of the beautiful Berkshires, The Acoustic Music Store offers a combination of traditional, folk and unusual instruments, musical accessories, novelties and gifts. And for those whose instruments are in need of a little TLC (or even an overhaul), our experienced luthier can handle most repairs in a timely manner.
We have over 100 guitars in stock from entry-level to professional-grade that include acoustic, acoustic/electric and classical instruments – with several unique, luthier-crafted instruments on hand as well. We offer assessments of customer’s pre-owned instruments and occasionally, should it be mutually beneficial, we will offer to buy, trade or consign them on our Reverb site (see the link on the very bottom of this page) or in our store inside Claudia’s Cluttered Closeout Corner. Look further down on this page to see what is stashed in the Closet now!
Combined with a cozy, friendly atmosphere and knowledgeable staff, the guitar enthusiast is able to sample a wide variety of instruments. From time to time, select consignment orchestral and band instruments can be found nestling amongst such unusual instruments as folk harps, didgeridoos, clay/wooden & bamboo flutes, kalimbas, dulcimers, carbon graphite guitars, cigar box guitars and the region’s largest collection of fine ukeleles and harmonicas.
Hand percussion lovers will find an eclectic mix of traditional and exotic instruments including bongos, congas, quintos, shekeres, RhythmRings, African djembes, doumbeks, guiros, basket shakers, celtic bodhrans, prayer drums, locally-made metal tongue drums and many more intriguing examples of international percussion.
The Acoustic Music Store has been a family-owned and operated independent shop for fifteen years. We invite you to visit us and see for yourself why we are worth the trip from (almost) anywhere!

Here’s a sample of what you’ll find as of November 22, 2015!
Pre-owned, barely used, Chinese-made Fender Squier Stratocaster, 6-string electric guitar is in remarkably good shape. This cool little guitar is candy apple red (one small finish scratch) with a white pick guard; it has a fast, straight, maple neck with maple fingerboard. It has been luthier set-up and restrung with fresh .010 D’Addario’s. $99.00 w/gig bag
This New old stock, Breedlove Passport N250/COe is truly special. If you are a steel string acoustic player who longs to expand your tonal palette with a nylon string guitar but don’t want to have to adapt to the classical guitar’s 2″ nut width and 12-fret neck…this is the guitar for you! With its 1 7/8″ nut, 14-fret (25.5″ scale) fingerboard and cutaway, this Breedlove is your Passport to crossover into the nylon string world! Solid red cedar top and ovankol back/sides give this guitar some gypsy fire and warmth and the proprietary Breedlove pre-amp give it some rock ‘n roll guts. MSRP: $799.00. Our Price: $399.50 w/proprietary Breedlove gig bag.
Pre-owned, but never-used, Rogue A-Style Mandolin in excellent condition. New strings, set-up. Gloss black. $99.00 (no case)
A duo of Brand New Recording King “Dirty 30s” 6-string acoustic flattop guitars – an OM and a Parlor! New! Each @ $169.00
Pre-owned Stagg S350 “Strat”-style electric guitar. Most definitely shows signs of wear, but, hey, some people actually spend a LOT of $$$ on a certain brand guitar that’s supposed to look like it’s been tossed about relentlessly in Auntie Dot’s closet for the past 40 years. You can have that same look for a LOT less (how does $89.00 sound to ya?) and – it’s been dusted off, set-up, strung with fresh Ernie Ball Slinky 10s and given a quick lap around our testing lab. Checks out A-OK. $89.00 (no case)
Brand New Takamine G493 Parlor Guitar. This brand new, sweet little guitar is looking for a home. And it’s being offered to you at 50% Off the MSRP! Our price: $325.00 (no case)
Pre-owned Strunal 948 Classical Guitar. The Strunal company is the largest (and one of the oldest) musical instrument manufacturers in Europe (Czech Republic). This solid-cedar top, solid Indian rosewood back & sides guitar plays and sounds incredibly beautiful for an instrument in this price-point. Truly an awesome value for an entry classical guitar! $175.00 (no case)
Pre-owned Tanglewood TWM-OS-VSG Mandolin is truly in mint condition! This A-Model style mando has a solid, carved top and the instrument is finished in a nice high-gloss black. $129.00 with gig bag
WOW! A new shipment of assorted, small hand-percussion instruments from Ghana!!! Priced from $11.95
A trio set of genuine, Senagalese Djun Djuns! 15″, 12″ & 10″ cowhide heads, rope-tuned. Black wooden shells. Badda-BOOM, t’ree times, meh-son! List: $1200.00. OUR PRICE: $850.00
This one is truly GRANDE! A well-loved and gently used, hand-made 1973 Ramirez 1A “Segovia” classical guitar has come to us by a consignor who, sadly, can no longer play due to medical issues. This is a serious guitar for the serious musician. This grande dame is in average condition for her age and use, has a fine, strong voice with even registration and clear, precise projection; she features Brazilian rosewood back & sides, cedar top and ebony fingerboard; and a new set of Savarez hard-tension strings. There are several closed and currently stable cracks on her top and back, and while this instrument is currently immediately playable, the new owner might wish to take her to their luthier to examine and (possibly) repair. Instruments of this class in excellent condition typically cost $7k+, but because of her current condition, the owner is willing to sacrifice! Asking $2900.00 (a worn, HS case is included). All reasonable offers will be considered.
This consigned beauty came to us back in 2014, and frankly, we can NOT understand why it is still here. Really, we can’t. Custom designed and hand-built by Massachusetts luthier Dave Charbonneau, this lightly used and beautifully kept gorgeous Charbonneau Shallow Jumbo acoustic 6-string guitar (#0403) is a fingerpicker’s dream! The carefully selected premium woods (Western cedar top, stunning quilted Bubinga back and sides, Pao Rosa fingerboard & bridge) combine for a warm and woody voice with deep tone, remarkable projection and excellent balance. Maple/ebony binding and abalone rosette. A tiny trace of polishing compound on the bridge and neck edge and a few micro-fine scratches are the only imperfections we can find with this exceptionally fine instrument. Most folks will find that this guitar plays easy with its jumbo frets and exceedingly comfortable action despite the instrument’s formidable size. That said, Munchkins need not apply. The instrument features an interior installed microphone for true acoustic sound AMPLIFIED! Originally offered at $2899.00, its price was lowered to $1895.00, and then again on July 8 it was lowered again to this outrageous STEAL @ $1450.00 (HS case included). What is wrong with you people?!? This axe is totally awesome!!!!!!!
Gently used, 1960s vintage, Stradivarius-copy 4/4 student violin with 2 bows and deLuxe case. Includes a Korg tuner, shoulder rest, extra strings…and a tuning fork! $149.99 (a new deLuxe case itself retails for more than what is offered in this violin package!)
A consignment and NEVER played! Like new, Loar LO-16-BK 1930s style 6-string acoustic guitar – a real blues box! Glossy black w/white pick guard. List: $599.00 Asking $250.00
Assorted Christmas tree ornaments! $2.99 each while supply lasts
Assorted Messenger Bags! $5 – $10 each while supply lasts
Unkle Sam’s Autoharp. This modified, US flag painted, autoharp is in good condition, but has been modified to play in a diatonic tuning. Ain’t another like it! Denim gig bag, too. $50.00 as is.
